Samson, Rabi and Jabulani are long distance truck drivers. Whilst they call Durban home, they are often away from home for weeks at a time. Average days consist of 19 hours worth of driving, often with very little rest in between.
These guys earn a good salary, but at what cost? They rarely see their families, often sleep with prostitutes who hang around the truck stops on the major, therefore increasing the spread of HIV/Aids and drive whilst tired.
South African roads have some of the highest death tolls in the world, and after spending time with a few truckers and hearing their story, I’m now beginning to see why.
