Today I learned that Brian Haw had passed after loosing his battle with lung cancer. Brian set up camp outside Parliament square in 2001 after he felt disgusted with US/UK foreign policy. I’m sure the spineless fucks that occupy our government saw him as an eyesore but to me, Brian was a man I’ll always be in awe of.
He stood up for something he believed in, living in a tent to display his disgust against numerous regimes who felt the need to continually bring war and terror on nations. As I’m getting older, I’m finding men like Brian to be more of a moral light than ever before. I think this world needs more like Brian to stand up and say no.
In 2005, legislation was passed that made unauthorised protests illegal in Parliament square. A sign that whilst many pretend to offer democracy, it’s only on their terms. Brian remained, fighting to the very end.
Brian, you were amazing to chat to back in 2005 and I thank you for giving me the time and energy. I do feel the UK is worse off for loosing you.
R.I.P Sir.
