One from the archives but still a valid image. Those refugees who’ve managed to find a safe place to live in Mae Sot (Thailand) often don’t have the support of the Thai government. The Young Chi Oo Burmese Workers Association helps out where possible with training courses in manufacturing of textiles, a large business in Northern Thailand due to labor costs being incredibly low.

A wife looks on as her husband tries to fix the family moped in Mae Sot, near the Burmese border.

With no support or legal recognition of asylum seekers from the Thai government, Burmese refugees live on very little income and support. Often a moped is shared amongst a group of families and used to transport upto 4 people at any given time, or food.

No matter how crap the situation is, kids often still smile and act like kids.

Shot inside a garment factory on the border of Thailand and Burma before I was the attention of a group of men who didn’t feel the need to have some westerner inside the compound.
