Roadside Memorials

8 December 2008

I’ve started a side project whilst in Durban, and will include other cities I visit.
Whilst I know this happens worldwide, it seems to be more active here. The general approach is to create a shrine to the recently departed person, in the form of flowers or other artifacts.
What fascinates me is the whole process of creating this shrine. Whilst I understand the remembrance process, I find it odd that you’d show the world where a person passed away, often under violent circumstances.
Each to their own I guess, but the attention to detail is amazing and has totally caught my eye.
